Built in the late 1800s in the oldest part of Graaff-Reinet, the Camdeboo Cottages have been declared national monuments, but also have modern conveniences like wi-fi, en suite bathrooms, fully-equipped kitchens, a swimming pool, covered carports, air conditioning and television with full DStv.
The nine self-cater cottages form a secluded courtyard and are centrally located, within walking distance of fascinating shops, galleries and museums.
Modern en suite rooms are also available, each with a verandah and garden views.
There are braai facilities around the swimming pool for guests wanting to barbecue their own Karoo lamb chops or sosaties from the local butchers.
Camdeboo Cottages has its own bar and a restaurant offering breakfasts (buffet or English) and a variety of delicious dinners, including bobotie, springbok, kudu steak, chicken schnitzel, a braai or Karoo lamb. There are also vegetarian options.
One of the advantages of staying at Camdeboo Cottages is the link with Chantelle Marais, one of Graaff-Reinet’s most knowledgeable tour guides.
Tour options include town walks, game-viewing at the Camdeboo National Park nearby, the Valley of Desolation, guided nature walks, exploring a township or heading off farther afield to the wild Baviaanskloof.
