Lani’s Farm Kitchen is housed in a striking Karoo-style house along Cradock’s main road, JA Calata Street.
Elanie (Lani) Lombard is a farmer’s wife with an instinct for creating a relaxed and stylish ambience, an intuitive talent in the kitchen and a genuine wish to show everyone how wonderful Cradock’s heart is. It has always been her dream to offer locals and visitors the best of the Karoo – authentic hospitality, great food and quality produce.
Lani’s Farm Kitchen is well-loved by locals for its delicious food, spacious leafy courtyard and smiling staff. Lani and her daughter Louzel Lombard-Steyn have stepped into the national spotlight by starring on the first My Kitchen Rules series. Now the nation knows her kindness and food talents too
This is where you can sample her delicious ciabatta bread, and she is always experimenting with new dishes. The latest breakfast craze is her French toast with brioche and farm eggs, crisp bacon and oozy camembert cheese, drizzled with local honey.
Her cheesecake involves fresh pecan nuts and salted caramel. There are warm and cold salads, delicious soups, traditional Karoo foods, decadent cakes, excellent coffee.
True Living invites long leisurely meals full of laughter in the shady courtyard, or in the hidden nooks around this lovely old house with its wooden floors.
Lani believes in the goodness of farm food. This is where you can buy her homemade cranberry and chocolate cookies, oat crunchies, fresh roosterkoek as well as farm produce like fresh eggs, locally harvested pecan nuts and walnuts, cheeses from the Eastern Cape, olives, suurlemoen stroop, pies ready for the oven – venison, lamb and chicken.
Look in the freezer for the Lombard’s famous family recipe sosaties, wild boar and cheese sausages, pate and malva pudding.
This is where you’ll find another specialty of this Eastern Karoo region – mohair products including blankets, scarves, wraps, socks, Camdeboo Leisure duvets and mohair carpets by Elsa Barnard.
True Living also stocks covetable leather bags from Melvill & Moon safari outfitters, percale linen, maps, and art by Rosheen Romer and Nicky Rosselli.
There is plenty of mohair, wool and cotton yarn for knitters and crocheters. For children, there are fun John Deere clothes and toys.
- True Living is open early for breakfasts, lunches and Friday night dinners during summer. Closed Sundays.
