Established in the mid-1980s, the Rhodes University Patrick and Margaret Flanagan Scholarship is a prestigious and empowering bursary that enables young South African women to complete their postgraduate university studies internationally.

Over the decades, Flanagan Scholars have taken leadership positions in many formerly male-dominated fields of endeavour.

They have become top lawyers, global communicators, ground-breaking medical scientists, language lecturers, philosophers, journalists, literary agents, musicians, psychologists and economists working to benefit developing countries.
