That feeling just never gets old.
After more than 21 years of writing and indie publishing, mainly on our beloved Karoo, you’d think that the arrival (from the printers) of a new book is old hat to us. You’d be wrong.
The anticipation is unbelievable. The photo editing, proofreading, layout and, finally, working with the master printer of Cadar, Kurt Terblanche, to get the image tones just right – it all comes down to the day of arrival.
Safeway Couriers, our friendly Cradock operators, pitch up with the first consignment of 832 books (32 boxes, 26 copies per box), at our home warehouse, which has been prepped and readied for the new member of the Karoo Space family of books.
We stand back and let the young muscles do the heavy offload. The remaining 4 000-odd books will come at the end of May, but for now we can supply all our first buyers – and more.
Our Klein Karoo Magic print order was for 5 000 – way more than the normal 3 000-copy Karoo Space print run. That’s how much faith we have in the Klein Karoo region, and the book we made on it.
Last weekend, we signed more than 200 books that were on order, packed them in ‘Mad Ostrich Paper’ and dropped them off at The Courier Guy here in Cradock.
We could rave on and on about the cover, the firm binding, the incredible stories inside, but, for now, we want to hear from all of you pioneer buyers. If you have ordered and paid for your author-signed first edition of Klein Karoo Magic, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the book.
